How it began

By the grace of God, the coming year, 2012, will mark the 15th consecutive edition of the Daily Bible Reading Schedule.

It began as a favor for my good friend, Shirley Hughes, who was at the time my new pastor’s wife.  She and her husband, Dr. Richard Hughes, had recently come to fill the pastorate at Third Street Baptist Church in Cordele, GA.   Shirley had a bible schedule she asked me to put on a computerized calendar format for her.

I started to use the schedule myself;  and found it very easy to use.  As a Sunday School teacher, I read and studied the Bible; but I had never read it through from beginning to end.   I began to read and seriously meditate on the Word, seeking God’s will for my life.   My fellowship with my Lord became intimate and intense; I experienced spiritual blessings I never knew possible.  My heart was over flowing with the love of God; and I wanted to share these blessings.    I went back and revised that first year’s schedule, including with it a challenge to others to read the Bible; and shared a few that first year.

The schedule has evolved from year to year with various helps to encourage others in the faith of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  In the beginning, I used my home printer to hand out a few copies.  Then we printed from the church copier, collating and binding several hundred ourselves, with help from the Joybells.  In 2011, by the grace of God, we had 12,000 professionally printed.  We’re praying for 15,000 copies for our 15th year of publication.
