In terms of warfare, God’s Word is appropriately called the sword of the Spirit. It is by the Spirit’s power that the Word goes forth. Whether the Spirit’s message is to warn, encourage, accuse, or persuade; it goes forth with such power that it effectively accomplishes whatever it is sent to do. The sword is an essential part of the Christian soldier’s armour. It is crucial to success in spiritual warfare. The sword is a powerful weapon when used effectively. Our faith is what motivates the Spirit to wield it on our behalf. As we release our faith in words or actions, the Holy Spirit wields the sword in aggressive resistance to the enemy’s attack.
If we are to be ready for battle at all times, we must read and meditate on the Word faithfully and conscientiously. We must treasure it and bury it down in our hearts; that is, memorize it. Hidden in the depths of our heart, the Word acts as a repellent or preservative against sin. And, every Scripture verse that abides there will become a sword in our arsenal of faith.
